Web Presense

How To Let Others Know You Exist Online

Creating a website isn’t your only option.  There are many parts of your web presence and some can stand on their own.

E- Commerce – Do you want to accept money through your website?  Are you building an online store?

Social Media – Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, etc. – These are powerful tools that can drive business to your website as they have inherent SEO (Search Engine Optimization) built into them.

Donation Pages – Are you a non-profit?  Do you have 501(c)3 certification?  If so, it would be nice to receive donations and provide donators with receipt for their tax purposes.  Maybe you have a website and a Go-Fund-Me page and want to link the two together.

Events – Do you want to create an event and advertise it?  You can add geo-location maps that allow you guests to find your event.  You can sell tickets yourself on your website or use third party services.  You can even ask guests to give you pictures that they may have taken to add to the page so that you can create a party collage.

Charity Scams

Now is a time to be concerned about scams involving charities. Hackers contact people randomly asking for money to aid those of us hit hard by these trying times. Do not be fooled. Do not donate to anyone contacting you. Simply say that you have already donated whether you have or not.

If you do feel like donating, try well known organizations such as https://www.feedingamerica.org/.

You can also consider donating locally.

No matter how you want to start, you may need a professional.

Want to connect a third party API to your website?

You may need a developer.

Want to build a website without doing the research?

You definitely need a developer.

Whatever your situation, if you do not have someone that can at least write basic HTML and CSS, you need a developer.

Why pay for what you don’t want?

Most website development companies want you to buy a package deal website.  A website has many parts and many of those parts you don’t need.

If you are just starting up a business, own a restaurant, or want to promote an event, you don’t need every part of a website.

For a restaurant, you need a responsive page that looks great on a computer, phone, or laptop.  You need to be search engine optimization, only to the point that if someone googles restaurants on their phone, that you come up as an option.  You may need some photography, and a specials list on the website, and social media, but you do not need monthly SEO updates or constant changes to your website.

Starting a business, why choke yourself with debt.  Get what you need.

Have a website already but it needs to some serious updating?  Why pay more?  Have a consultation of what you really need.

    • Add some responsive design
    • Add some programming functionality
    • Add animations
    • Update the look

Have an event, why pay more for a short term project.

Get what you need.  Then get what you want.

Happy Technology Day

Every morning I try to use the Amazon Echo that our realtor gave us as a house warming gift.

“Alexa, Good Morning”

This phrase will give you a short detail of the day.  This morning was technology day with a joke.

“How many IT technicians does it take to plug in a light bulb?  One.  The lamp wasn’t plugged in.”

Becoming a electronic technician and an IT professional was the greatest thing for me.  It has opened my eyes to what is possible in this world and allowed me to build what I need instead of waiting for someone else to build it.

I will always be grateful to those who taught me or inspired me to become what I am today.  I honor them by passing on that knowledge to whomever I can.

Thank you

The problem with perfect

The problem with perfect is that it never happens(period). There is always room for updates, maintenance, and improvement. Think of your web presence as a machine that has to be maintained. That is what it is. You can add parts to your machine. We can add forms for your clients to populate their data. We can add analytics to find what works and what doesn’t. We can add SEO to improve advertisement placement. Your machine is what you make it and can be as powerful as you want.

And, it can always be improved.
